Online Fungal Database

The fungal database contains the specimen information for the fungal collections accessioned in the University Herbarium (MIN). All information in the database is copyrighted by the Bell Museum of Natural History. Use of the information requires proper acknowledgement in any presentation, report, publication, training manual, or any other written or digital output.

Special Users can obtain more detailed information, such as specific details on localities and taxonomic notes, than is available to the General Public. This information is available in a sortable format. Special permission is required to access this information, some of which is sensitive. Contact the Curator of Fungi (davem@tc.umn.edu) for access; permission is renewed annually.

Taxonomy: The names for fungi in the database may be current or earlier names. Earlier names are used when a specimen has not been rechecked by an expert. Special Users have access to a taxonomic note field which suggests the current name for the collection. Specimens must be examined, however, to be certain of the identification.

Searching by Host: To find a fungus associated with a particular plant or other host, search using the scientific or common name of the host in the habitat field as well as with the scientific name in the host field.

Funding for modernization of the Minnesota fungal collections and development of the web site was provided by the Minnesota Environmental and Natural Resources Trust Fund as recommended by the Legislative Committee on Minnesota Resources (1999-2001).
